Wheeler Road Moses Lake, WA 98837 S amaritan Healthcare recently earned a full Trauma Service Level III designa- tion by the Washington State Depart- ment of Health (DOH). UPGRADING TO LEVEL III Samaritan had previously been a Level IV Trauma Center. Requirements of the new Level III desig- nation include 24-hour board-certified general and orthopaedic surgery coverage, a full-scale trauma team with a certified trauma surgeon, certified emergency department (ED) and intensive care nurses, and 24-hour access to state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment. The planning and preparation for the Trauma Level III designation began in February 2017. The trauma team evaluated data and reviewed and updated policies and procedures to meet requirements for DOH compliance.The new designation is due to the ability of Samaritan’s expert trauma team to care for trauma patients while creating thorough processes in place to en- sure that trauma patients receive state-of-the-art medical care. EXPERT TRAUMA TEAM Samaritan’s trauma team, led by Shelley Gay, Advanced Care Unit/Trauma Director, consists of Rebecca Suarez, RN, ED Director; Cecilia Trydestam, MD; and Jodi Mauseth, RN, Trauma Registrar. “We are excited to build the trauma program and to provide this service to our community,” says Gay. “This new designation gives Samaritan the ability to provide quality care to our region while keeping local patients closer to home and family, which is especially comforting in a time of crisis.” Samaritan upgrades to Level III Trauma Center “We are thrilled to have officially received this designation. It’s been an ongoing effort with involvement from physicians, staff, and outside community organizations over the past year.
