Samaritan Healthcare | The Samaritan | Winter 2018

The focus of our work in 2017 is multifac- eted, but, ultimately, it all points back to the mission of our Foundation: “Ensuring the continued availability of high-quality health care services and programs to patients of Samaritan Healthcare.” Golf Classic raises $27,880 The 16th Annual Samaritan Healthcare Foundation Desert Golf Classic marks another successful round of golfing adventures, laughs, prizes, and generosity. We can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity that raised $27,880 for local Foundation projects. We also want to thank pro golfer Bill Porter and his staff for their assistance and golf expertise. The Links Moses Pointe hosted the event, and Mul- ligan’s catered lunches and an after-golf meal. Foster Pepper repeated their sponsorship of the Hole- in-One challenge, though unfortunately, no one came away $50,000 richer this year. Inland Cellular contin- ued to sponsor the Putting Contest, though it also had no $10,000 winner. Thank you to each of our wonderful sponsors, listed below, for continually help- ing Samaritan Healthcare Foundation bring this great event to our community. However, without enough personal financial support and stability, many cardiac rehab patients rarely complete the program. True recovery is advanced by programs like cardiac rehab, a medically supervised program of exercise, nutrition management and weight loss. And the scholarship program ensures that patients can stay in the program through com- pletion. This program opened its doors in June 2016 and has been changing lives ever since. STATE-OF-THE-ART ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY TABLE ENHANCES SURGICAL OPTIONS With its unique capability to position the leg, the Hana® table enables surgeons to perform hip replacement through a short, single incision without detaching muscle from the pelvis or femur. The table allows hyperextension, abduc- tion, adduction and external rotation of the legs for femoral component placement—a positioning option not possible with conven- tional tables. This makes the Hana table an excellent tool for many orthopaedic surgical procedures, including femur fractures (supine or lateral positions), tibia fractures, hip pin- nings, hip scopes, and total knee arthroplasties. SAMARITAN CLINIC REMODEL ENHANCES ENVIRONMENT OF HEALTH AND HEALING This $1.3-million project focuses on remodeling the first floor of the Samaritan Clinic Building. Estimated to be completed in 2018, the goal of the project focuses on improving the patient experience and creating a warm, welcoming en- vironment that promotes health and healing. The project also includes the creation of the INSPIRE café near the main clinic entrance. This addition will feature a partnership with local vendor, Red Door Café.The new space will give Samaritan Clinic patients, staff and visitors a convenient, healthy option for food and beverages. YOUR GIFT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE Your gift, and others like it, has been a special help in the care at Samaritan Hospital. The newest technology in ultrasound, the establishment of the cardiac rehab program, and new Panda warmers on our Mother Baby Unit are just a few examples of the generosity that has come from our community. Because of your help, our tools in treatment are bet- ter and closer and provide a special comfort to families and friends in need. Golf ball launcher: This year, we added a golf ball launcher game, sponsored by Red House Media and Hillary Lyons. It was a huge hit! 2 THE SAMARITAN
