SamaritanHealthcare.com Joshika 8 | THE SAMARITAN Joshika (middle) has volunteered at Samaritan throughout high school—serving at the gift shop and the information desk for three to four hours a week. Participating in Key Club, a volunteer service organization, led to her interest in volunteering. The main reasons she volunteers are her love for service and medicine—she plans on going into the medical field and wanted to experience the hospital setting. The people she meets are another reason. “Volunteering brings so many people together from different backgrounds,” said Joshika. “I love the volunteers that work with me. They are such lovely women and are an inspiration to me.” Whether she is at the gift shop or the information desk, Joshika enjoys being able to assist the people that come in. “I love hearing the stories of the customers and the reasons behind the gifts they bought,” she said. “And the information desk is a very crucial part of someone’s visit at Samaritan, so we always have smiles on our faces and are willing to check up on people who have been waiting to get admitted.” When Joshika is not volunteering, she keeps busy with school and music. She has played piano for 12 years and is dedicated to practicing and learning new pieces. She also teaches piano to other young learners, hoping that music will have a positive impact on their lives. Joshika is very family oriented and she strives to be a good role model for her younger sister. She plans to continue volunteering before she heads off to college next fall. Best of luck to you in college, Joshika—and thank you for volunteering at Samaritan!
