to be a doctor from the moment she was
born. It never crossed her mind to be any-
thing else.
She was born and raised in Seattle. She
attended Central Washington University,
in Ellensburg, where she received her
bachelor’s degree in biology. From there
she attended medical school in Madison,
Wis., where her love of high school athlet-
ics moved her along in the direction of an
orthopedic specialty.
Then halfway through her medical
school years, she married her high school
sweetheart, Craig, and soon different
thoughts began forming—thoughts of
how to juggle being a wife, a mother and
a doctor. Knowing that orthopedics was
a very time-consuming specialty but still
wanting to help people with decisions about
their health, Dr. Carter opted to become a
family medicine doctor so she could care
for the whole patient and the whole fam-
ily. She went to Fayetteville, N.C., for her
residency in family medicine, and once
she finished, she couldn’t wait to get back
home to Washington state and start her
own practice.
Dr. Carter is an excellent addition to the
Samaritan family. In 2000, her warm, car-
ing, supportive manner brought her many
In July of 2000, Samaritan Clinic was welcoming its newest
family medicine doctor. Andrea Carter, MD, fresh out of
residency, a big smile on her face and with her young family
in tow, was about to enter a new and exciting phase of her
life.
Dr. Carter insists that she has always wanted
patients, and over the next
11 years, her practice grew by
leaps and bounds as the com-
munity embraced her. When
she left Samaritan in 2011 to
practice for Moses Lake Com-
munity Health Center, many of her patients
followed her.
Now, in 2013, Dr. Carter feels that it is
time to enter another phase in her life, so
she has returned to Samaritan Healthcare.
Her patient base has grown, as has her
family. Her four very active children are
taking her down yet another path.
“Sometimes I feel that I leave my day
job as a doctor to go to my evening job
as a bus driver,” Dr. Carter says. “With
four children involved in everything from
dance to cheerleading to basketball, I am
constantly on the go.”
Dr. Carter has decided to phase out de-
livering babies to allow her more time to
spend with her own family. She will con-
tinue to see her current patients through
their deliveries but is not taking any new

obstetric patients. She will continue to see
patients and familymembers for their other
medical needs.
“My goal is to partner with my patients
and help them learn how to be stewards
of their own health,” Dr. Carter says. “My
heart has always been with Samaritan. That
is why I have continued to work in physi-
cian leadership at Samaritan for the last
13 years. With the new CEO at Samaritan
Healthcare, very exciting changes are oc-
curring, and I want to be a part of that. I
am very excited to be back.”
Dr. Carter is seeing patients Tuesday
through Friday. Her office is located in
the Samaritan Clinic building,
1550 S. Pioneer Way, Suite 150.
