Samaritan Healthcare | The Samaritan | Summer 2018

Summer 2018 7 Bones and joints come in all sizes, and you deserve state-of-the- art care when they need surgery or repair. Whether you need joint replacement or foot surgery, we are happy to have these four talented medical professionals on our orthopae- dic and podiatry care teams. STOP HURTING, START LIVING Leo Chough, MD, is our on- staff orthopaedic surgeon and fellowship-trained sports medi- cine specialist. Chris Stone is our orthopaedic physician assistant who worked with Dr. Chough in Seattle before joining him at Samaritan. Now Dr. Chough and Stone provide orthopaedic care to patients in the Moses Lake region and beyond. Dr. Chough is skilled in anterior hip replace- ment surgery and has instructed countless other surgeons in the procedure. The minimally invasive, anterior hip procedure is performed from the front of the hip joint where there are fewer muscles, rather than a side or back approach. In anterior hip replacement, Dr. Chough works between the major muscles instead of cutting them or detach- ing them from the bones as in other procedures. This means there is no need to repair the muscles after replacing the hip joint. Since the muscles and soft tissues are not disturbed in an anterior hip procedure, there is also less likelihood of hip dislo- cation post-surgery. Dr. Chough’s other specialties include reverse and regular shoulder surgeries, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction/revision, and more. These procedures use muscle-sparing surgical techniques, which lead to more rapid recover- ies for patients. Patients benefit from a faster and safer recovery, which mean better outcomes. Rapid recovery procedures: ●  ● Are as pain-free as possible. ●  ● Equate to shorter hospital stays. ●  ● Get patients back to their lives more quickly—the way it should be. In addition to his education and experience as an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Chough received additional training in a sports medicine fellowship with Phila- delphia’s Eagles (NFL) and Flyers (NHL) teams. He has also provided sports medicine for athletes in college sports and men’s and women’s pro teams. Chris Stone, PA-C, provides care for patients in the clinic for conditions including hip or knee pain, sprains, fractures, dislocations, joint injections and more. In surgery, Stone assists Dr. Chough in performing arthroscopic (small incision) and replacement surgeries for knees, hips, shoulders and more. Dr. Chough and Stone work as a team to help Moses Lake area residents return to their active everyday lives through state-of-the-art orthopae- dic surgery, procedures and services. Orthopaedics We have great orthopaedics and podiatry No bones about it If you have foot and ankle pain, you no longer need to suffer. You also don’t need to endure further pain by driving out of town to receive surgical care. Untreated foot or ankle prob- lems can also affect posture, ligament stabilization and other issues. Arezou Amidi, DPM, one of our podiatrists, is fellowship- trained and specializes in foot and ankle surgery and reconstruction, plus foot and ankle trauma, fractures, sports injuries, tendon and soft tissue repair, and more. She is board-qualified with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, is a doctor of podiatric medi- cine, and holds a degree in molecular biology. She also completed special- ized fellowship training on foot and ankle surgery and reconstruction. Dr. Amidi grew up understanding how meaningful it is to bring healing to others because both of her parents were doctors. When she decided to go into medicine, she chose podiatry due to its focus on a specialized area. She sincerely cares for her patients—always striving to give them the best possibil- ity to achieve success in healing. Podiatrist Daren Vernon, DPM, has been providing care to Moses Lake patients for 21 years. He was born in Moses Lake and grew up here, so he knows the community—and the people—well. Dr. Vernon is board-certified with the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and has a degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, as well as additional train- ing from the Houston Podiatric Foundation. He currently provides nonsurgical foot, toe and nail care, including diabetic and routine foot treatments, orthotic fittings, and other procedures. We call it podiatry—you’ll call it life changing Our highly skilled orthopaedic and podiatry healthcare teams at Samaritan Healthcare offer quality treatment and procedures.
