Becky DeMers, RN, chief

quality officer

After obtaining her nursing

degree from North Idaho

College in Coeur d’Alene,

Idaho, Becky DeMers re-

ceived advanced degrees in

nursing and business from

the University of Phoenix

in Phoenix, Arizona. Most

recently, DeMers was em-

ployed with the Washing-

ton Hospital Association,

where she was director of

quality and performance

improvement. DeMers also

worked as an international

consultant for hospital

operations with Navigant

Consulting. At Providence

Sacred Heart Medical Cen-

ter in Spokane, she served

as the emergency depart-

ment manager of a level II

trauma center and emer-

gency department.

DeMers has worked at

the system level on leader-

ship, quality and change

initiatives. She worked

with Voluntary Hospitals

of America (VHA) to create

a knowledge transfer plat-

form to share best practices

Originally from Coeur

d’Alene, Idaho, DeMers has

three adult children, one

grandchild and another

grandchild on the way. In

her spare time, she enjoys

outdoor activities, espe-

cially kayaking, hiking and

horseback riding.

David Campbell,

director of business

development and

physician recruitment

A resident of our com-

munity since the fall of

1963, David Campbell has

worked for nonprofit or-

ganizations in Moses Lake

for the past 20 years.

Campbell worked as ex-

ecutive director at Samaritan

Healthcare Foundation and

as community development

coordinator at Samaritan

Healthcare from July 1999 to

March 2015. Prior to arriving

at Samaritan Healthcare, he

worked as executive direc-

tor at United Way of Grant

County and as foundation

manager at Columbia Basin

Foundation.

Campbell has been

active in several areas of

community service, in-

cluding the Rotary Club

of Moses Lake, where he

is a past president. He has

served as a board member

at the Grant County Emer-

gency Food & Shelter Pro-

gram, the Columbia Basin

Domestic Violence Con-

sortium, and the Family

Services of Grant County

(Head Start, Early Head

Start).

Campbell and his wife,

Jennifer, have five chil-

dren and four grandchil-

dren. All of the children

and grandchildren live in

Moses Lake. All of the chil-

dren and three of the four

grandchildren were born

at Samaritan Hospital. In

their spare time, Campbell

and his wife enjoy traveling

with friends and relatives.

Katie Bussard, RN,

CNM, MSN, director of

the Mother/Baby Unit

Katie Bussard is a reg-

istered nurse and certi-

fied nurse-midwife who

now serves at Samaritan

Healthcare as the director

of the Mother/Baby Unit.

After graduating from

Winston-Salem State Uni-

versity in Winston-Salem,

North Carolina, Bussard

worked as a registered

nurse for 11 years in a

variety of inpatient hospi-

tal departments.

After receiving her

master’s degree in nurse-

midwifery from Frontier

Nursing University, Bus-

sard worked as a certi-

fied nurse-midwife with

the Indian Health Service

in high-risk obstetrics

on the Navajo reserva-

tion in Arizona. Most

recently, Bussard worked

in a hospital-based mid-

wifery practice in rural

Hawaii, while also serving

as director of nursing for

a critical access hospital.

A life-long learner, she

enjoys participating in

and providing hands-on

continuing education for

nursing staff.

Bussard has special

training in high-risk ob-

stetrics, lactation, obstet-

ric ultrasound, human

trafficking and sexual

assault forensics.

Originally from North

Carolina, Bussard is mar-

ried with four children.

She enjoys spending time

with friends and family,

reading, hiking and gar-

dening. Bussard is very ex-

cited to join the wonderful

team of dedicated nurses,

doctors and breastfeeding

specialists at Samaritan

Healthcare that serve the

families of Grant County.

Kurtis Kuykendall,

MBA, director of

process management

Kurtis Kuykendall has over

18 years of health care ex-

perience and joins Samari-

tan after spending the last

eight years at Arkansas

Children’s Hospital in Little

Rock, Arkansas. After ob-

taining his MBA at Weber

State University, Kuyken-

dall earned his Lean Six

Sigma Master Black Belt

from Villanova University.

He is also a graduate of the

IHI (Institute for Health-

care Improvement) Patient

Safety Executive Develop-

ment Program.

Much of his career

focus has been analyzing

systems and utilizing im-

provement science meth-

odologies to increase the

operational and clinical

efficiencies of large-scale

organizations.

As a native Washingto-

nian, he’s an avid outdoors-

man who always dreamt of

someday returning to the

Northwest. Growing up,

Kuykendall spent most of

his summers fishing the

Potholes. He also has pas-

sions for hiking, biking

and skiing. He has coached

travel baseball for the past

five years and is married

with two boys: a 12-year-

old and an 8-year-old.

When asked to sum up

his thoughts on moving

his career and family to

Moses Lake, he says, “I

am excited to not only be-

gin working at Samaritan

but to jump right in as

an active member of this

community.”

Jackie Britton, ARNP,

Samaritan urgent care

Jackie Britton has been a

nurse practitioner for six

years. She spent the first

four years of her career

in a large family practice

residency program pri-

mary care clinic work-

ing with the underserved

population of Fort Collins,

Colorado.

Her previous clinic is an

extension of The University

of Colorado Health, the

largest health care orga-

nization in Colorado. She

gained valuable experience

managing chronic illnesses

in a difficult patient popu-

lation with very limited

resources.

For the past two years,

she has worked in the

walk-in/urgent care clinic

of the same residency pro-

gram clinic. In the urgent

care setting, she has had

the opportunity to expand

her clinical skills while

maintaining the primary

care experience.
