educational goals. At the July 11 Samaritan Foundation Board meeting, the Board of Directors awarded $10,850 in scholarships to the following employees of Samaritan Health-
care for the 2016–2017 academic year:

At the meeting, the Foundation Board also chose Ariana Chavez to receive the Karen Wagner Scholarship, which has historically been awarded on the basis of personal
achievement.
Another honor was given to Shelley Gay as the recipient of the Employee Memorial Scholarship, which has historically been awarded to a long-time employee in memory
of people who have passed away while being employed at Samaritan Healthcare.
The Samaritan Healthcare Foundation has been awarding scholarship assistance to Samaritan employees for approximately 30 years, with over $170,000 being awarded

Foundation
aims high
The Samaritan Healthcare Founda-
tion has surpassed the halfway point
of the year and is actively working to
reach its ambitious goal of $207,000
toward the purchase of a third ul-
trasound unit for the patients of
Samaritan Healthcare.
“Although we are well on our way
to accomplishing our fundraising
goal, we still have some pretty am-
bitious plans to get us to the finish,”
says Gretchen Youngren, Director of
Development and Communications.
The Foundation kicked off the
year by hosting its annual donor
appreciation dinner in March and is
gearing up for the second event for
the year, the 15th annual Desert Golf
Classic to be held at Moses Pointe
on Thursday, Sept. 8. All proceeds
from the tournament will go toward
the 2016 project goal.
“I think what’s exciting is that
there’s more happening with the
Foundation than most people would
think,” says Youngren. “INSPIRE,
the employee branch of the Founda-
tion, just wrapped up its second an-
nual campaign, and last July, Circle
of Health kicked off its membership
